My Higher Power
This is a topic that has been really difficult for me to define, especially within the realm of religion. So I’m stepping outside that and standing somewhere else to define for myself what/who my higher power is.
A Yaqui elder spoke with me recently, and discussed what the concept of a higher power looks like. I assume he had an inkling that I was struggling with this concept in my inner world.
I asked him “is it one person?” “Is it a man or a woman?”
He responded with “could it be a group of people?”
Now he really got my brain going. I asked “Is it even a person? Are they spirits? Is it Mother Earth? WHAT IS IT!?”
He calmy responded with some elder wisdom and left me to my own devices again.
If you think about it, beyond the lens of religion (which teaches that a higher power equals a masculine god) you open yourself up to a whole new realm of possibilities.
The Yaqui elder mentioned the fourth, and fifth dimensions. The realm of the unknown, or what you cannot physically see.
When I think or talk about my higher power, I’m definitely referring to something that I cannot prove or see in the flesh. So I’m talking about something/someone in another dimension.
As to defining what that is, I fear I cannot, but I have an inkling that there is something beyond this world that is wishing me well and taking care of me. I think about my recent ancestors who have passed away, and I definitely think they are present in spirit and taking care of me in mysterious and serendipitous ways.
Anyways, I’ll end here. Trying to define something undefinable has me stumped.
